Helen M. Achten, 87, of Wetmore, KS passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 after a brief illness, surrounded by family. She was born July 15, 1921, in Wetmore, the daughter of Charles H. and Stella Hough Mayer. Mrs. Achten was a member of the Wetmore United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her entire life was devoted to her family. Helen married George Achten on January 6, 1946 in Mound City, MO. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Stimac; sister, Merle Turrentine; and brothers, Leonard, Floyd, and Warren Mayer. Survivors include her loving husband, George, daughter, Suzanne Hayosh and her husband, Bill of Shelby township, MI; son, James Achten and his wife, Susie of Wetmore; son-in-law, Bob Stimac of Seneca, KS; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Wetmore United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Granada Cemetery.
