Roanoke Vet Passes; Buried at Mt. Hickory.

S. H. Abernathy, aged 86 years, Confederate soldier and well-known citizen of this section, passed away at his home in Roanoke last Sunday afternoon about four o'clock, according to information reaching relatives in this city early this week. Funeral service was held from the Mt. Hickory Church on Monday afternoon with Elder J. T. Satterwhite, a former pastor of the deceased, officiating and being assisted by Rev. T. E. Ellis, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Roanoke. Interment was in the Mt. Hickory Cemetery.
The deceased was a life-long resident of this section and was a familiar figure in the affairs of this section for many years. He is survived by three children, John D. Abernathy, of Miami; Mrs. John McCoy and Otis Abernathy, Milltown; and a wide circle of relatives and friends throughout East Alabama.
