Wife of Roland Wright Holmes.
Emily passed away at Marianwood Nursing Home a year after her beloved husband, Roland Holmes. Her condition had steadily deteriorated since Easter Sunday but her wonderful mind was still clear and strong until the end. The night before she died we had an earthquake here and we like to think that it was probably Dad stomping his feet and saying "Em, you get on up here, NOW".
Mom was a real expert at finding four-leaf clovers and that's why this little poem by Ella Higginson seems appropriate to honor her memory.
"I know a place where the sun is like gold,
And the cherry blossoms burst with snow,
And down underneath is the lovliest nook,
Where the four-leaf clovers grow.
One leaf is for hope, and one is for faith,
And one is for love, you know,
And God put another in for luck-
If you search, you will find where they grow.
But you must have hope, and you must have faith,
You must love and be strong-and so
If you work, and if you wait, you will find the place
Where the four-leaf clovers grow".
We figure Mom and Dad are there together just about now!
