Fred was born in London, Ontario Canada to Charles Henry Paddison and Katie Stevenson (also buried in Lincoln Mem. in the older part of the cemetery). He had three siblings, Naomi (sometimes referred to as Naoma), Harry and Frank. His parents immigrated the family to the US around 1900-1902 and took up residence in Estacada, OR. The family then moved to Portland after World War I, living in a home on Halsey St. Fred was a remarkable artist, and loved copying drawings from newspaper clippings with his own hand. In his 20's, he began working at JC Penny's downtown store, designing beautiful window displays. Fred was an incredibly talented artist and was well known as being a very hard working man. We have many beautiful drawings he made from childhood and onward. Fred rode the street car daily to and from his job, and there he saw his future wife Cleo Jeanette Simonson waiting for the same car. She worked across the street at Lipman and Wolfe. They began their 52 year relationship, by marrying June 14th 1936 at Hinson Memorial Church. Fred and Cleo had two sons, Larry Paddison (later changed to John Mantzefield) and Neal Arthur Paddison. Fred built their family home on Henry St. in Portland, Oregon and that is where they raised their family. The home still stands today. After his retirement from JC Penny's, Fred took his $6,000 dollar pension and purchased Lake Oswego Bike & Boat. Over the next 15 years he expanded it into one of the largest Schwinn dealerships in the Northwest. Fred and Cleo enjoyed being volunteer caretakers at the Rhododendron Test Gardens at Crystal Springs in SE Portland. They volunteered hundreds of hours in the last few years of their lives. Fred passed away in 1986 at the age of 85 after collapsing from heart failure. He left behind his sons, wife, and grandsons Clayton and Evan Paddison (born later in 1989). Fred was a tremendous husband, father and friend.
