Born of Irish descent in New York, New York on January 9, 1911, longtime resident of the Bronx, Thomas Francis Fannan III died on Thursday, May 10, 1979 at the age of 68 in a Bronx hospital after complications from suffering a heart attack at home a couple of days before his death.

Tom was predeceased by his cherished parents, Thomas Francis Fannan II, who owned a saloon in Manhattan, and Laura Theresa Gray-Fannan who died when Tom was a young boy of five years old.

Predeceased by Tom also was his older sister Laura Jane Fannan-Lock and his caring step-mother, Lisbeth Black Reid-Fannan. Lisbeth became step-mother to the Fannan children when Tom was 8 years old. The Fannan children affectionately called her Mom Mom.

Surviving Tom were his beloved wife, of 24 years, Rosa Maria a/k/a Rose Mary Fariello-Fannan and his devoted daughter Laura Fannan, both of the Bronx, as well as siblings, Anne M. Fannan-Behary, Gertrude Fannan-Haines, Virginia Fannan-Flanagan, Arthur George Fannan and Miriam Grace Fannan-Pitz.

Tom enlisted in the service and served in United States Army, Battery D, 258th Field Artillery from New York and was inducted into Federal Service on February 3, 1941. He served during World War II in Germany and his unit was demobilized on October 30, 1945. Tom was a Private First Class.

On May 8, 1955, at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, on 833 St. Anne's Avenue, Bronx, New York, Tom married his sweetheart, Rose. Rose's older sister, Margaret Celli was her matron-of-honor and Tom's younger, and only brother, Arthur G. Fannan was his best man.

He is interred next to his love Rose in Saint Raymond's Cemetery (New) in the Bronx located in the Section Pieta, Range 99 Grave 19.
