Gertrude Elizabeth was born to parents; Anna Emily (Meyer) and Benjamin Franklin Harris, the 3rd of 5 children;

Ronald Meyer 1891 - 1968
Richard Joseph 1893 - 1988
Gertrude Elizabeth 1897 - 1993
Lee Benjamin 1901 - 1982
Dorothye Bertha 1908 - 1931

In Nana's words: My parents Ben and Anna Harris with my two older brothers came to Montana in 1895 to take over the ranch of my mothers brother, William F Meyer. He had come as one of the Ripon Colony who purchased and settled the town of Park City. I joined them Jan 9th 1897 and grew up through a very happy childhood and girlhood there. Space does not permit details of the life we had. Farm and home chores kept us busy, planting, tending, and preserving the many fruits and vegetables which eventually filled the shelves lining our fruit cellar. But I loved the long winter evenings when we gathered in the living room to play games, hear Dad read aloud or join the family in music. Mother was a graduate of Ripon Conservatory of music in piano and taught us all to play some instrument. With other young people we picniced, explored the interesting rock formations of the rim rocks and rode horseback. In winter skating, sleigh rides, and get-togethers at some of our homes kept busy,and of course the Saturday night dances were the utmost. After attending the Elementary school in Park City, I went Oberlin, Ohio to stay with an Aunt and enter High School. But it was a long way from home so the next two years I spent in Park City. Since they only had a three your course I graduated in Billings with the class of 1915. My plans to return to Oberlin for college were disrupted when I met and fell in love with John Calhoun. We were married Mar 1 1918 just prior to his leaving for the Army Air Force. We were together at Eberto Field and Dayton AFB. After his discharged we returned to Columbus and he joined his dad Hank in an auto repair business. The assessor asked me if I could assist for a couple of weeks in his office and that ended in 41 years of service for Stillwater County in the offices of Assessor, Treasurer, and Clerk and Recorder. It's been a good life watching change from coal oil lamps to electricity; transportation from horses thru trains and cars to planes; communications from 2 cent postage, thru telephone radio and television. We raised three children; Helen, Pat and John in Columbus and now have 10 grandchildren! To sum it up I say "A happy life well lived!"
