Henrietta Calhoun
Birth: Sep. 15, 1813
Coweta County
Georgia, USA
Death: Feb. 3, 1922
Carroll County
Georgia, USA

Henrietta, being an African American woman, was most likely born into slavery. Her parents are unknown. James Madison was president of the United States at the time of her birth. There were 15 stars and 15 stripes on the U.S. Flag.

During her lifetime, she would have witnessed the War of 1812 (1812-1815), the Creek War (1813-1814), the Civil War, and World War I.

She also would have lived through emancipation, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 which killed hundreds, the Wright brothers first flight on December 17, 1903, the founding of the Ford Motor Company in 1903, and the San Francisco earthquake in 1906.

Closer to home she would have witnessed the Trail of Tears following the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the Civil War, the death of little Mary Phagan, the railroad, and the electrification of West Georgia.

It is unknown what Henrietta thought of all the changes that occurred in her lifetime. She was a widow at the time of her death at the age of 110 years, 2 months and 17 days; a resident of Whitesburg, Carroll Co., Georgia. Dan Calhoun provided the information for her death certificate.

Henrietta is buried in the Whitesburg Cemetery in an unmarked grave. May she rest in peace.
