Marcella Mercier was the second child of Alexandre Mercier and Juliene Perier. She was born in Vankleek Hill, Prescott County, Ontario, Canada. She had eleven other siblings. She married James Edward Smith on Nov. 20, 1864, in Vankleek Hill. She and James emigrated to Marquette, Marquette County, Michigan, in 1883. Marcella and James lived at 525 High Street in Marquette until her death from bronchial pneumonia in 1904.
