Victoria Maerene Upchurch (1920 - 2012)

Victoria Maerene Upchurch, 91, of Haslet passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at home. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: Mrs. Upchurch will be available for viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the James L. West Adult Day Care Center, 1111 Summit Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76102.

Mae was born on July 7, 1920, in Avery to her parents, Zadock and Virgie. She was the youngest of seven. Mae married Gene in Hobbs, N.M., on March 18, 1943. They had five children. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, crocheting, dominoes, bingo of which she was the luckiest person at, and sewing. During her marriage to Gene, they were stationed in several states and overseas. She especially loved the tours on Guam and Puerto Rico. She loved combing the beaches to see what treasures she could find. After being diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer's, Mae started going to the Adult Day Care Center at James L. West. She loved going and was able to go and participate in all of their wonderful activities until a week ago. She found great friendships and loving people, especially Patty and Irma. She loved visiting with people her own age. If it had not been for the daycare program and the wonderful care they give to those with that terrible disease this would never have been an option. She was preceaded in death by husband, Earl E. Upchurch; grandson, Scott Rowland; her parents, five brothers; and a sister.

Survivors: Victoria will be remembered by her loving children, Earl Upchurch, Barbara McLeod, Michael Upchurch, Sheryl Poole and Pam Russell; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
