J. Grant Shatzer, 79, of 442 E. Catherine St., died at 1:15 a.m. today at the Chambersburg Hospital following a long illness.

Born on Nov. 7, 1886 in Franklin County, he was a son of the late George A. and Lavina Miller Shatzer. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder in the church for a number of years.

He was a veteran of World War I and was an employee of the former Wolf Co., retiring in 1952.

His wife, Mrs. Arminta Byers Shatzer, preceded him in death in May, 1953.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons, Miss Pauline V. Shatzer and Mrs. Lloyd Knauff, both at home; Mrs. Robert C. Raifsnider, 464 E. Catherine St.; Mrs. Marlin McNew, of R. R. 2, Fayetteville; Herbert M. Shatzer of 579 Guilford Ave. and J. Grant Shatzer Jr., of Carlisle; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sellers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Rodney T. Taylor officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd Kinzer. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service on Monday.
