Ernest Charles Carlton, Sr. was a U.S. Army Veteran. He served two tours in Vietnam. He earned the "National Defense Service Medal", "Vietnam Service Medal", and "Vietnam Campaign Medal". He was honorably discharged on May 4, 1964. He re-enlisted the following day on May 5, 1964. He was again honorably discharged on May 3, 1967 as an Overseas Returnee. He was also issued a third honorable discharge on July 18, 1971.
Ernest married Bonnie Jean Howell Brister on January 26, 1973. Born of this union were Cynthia Leslie, Wendy Renee, and Ernest Charles Carlton, Jr. Ernest was also a father to Randy, Bonnie's son. He loved constructing homes and was a building contractor until his death in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Christopher Crowe; two granddaughters, Kayla and Christine Crowe, and five brothers, Francis, William, John, Dennis, and Elliot Oiliver Carlton, Jr.
