Mr. Hugh Edward Brown, 84, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at UAMS in Little Rock, AR.  He was born on July 16, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas to Dewey Joseph Brown and Suvella Hammond Brown.  He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1956 with a BS degree in chemistry; interrupting his college education to serve in the Korean War.  He married Viva Ed Thrash in 1954 and was devoted to loving her during their 55 years of marriage.  He began his professional career in the labs of Frito Lay working to develop their flagship product - Doritos, he quickly moved to plant manager in Dallas, Texas and regional manager over several Texas plants.

After a serious auto accident that left his beloved wife Viva Ed, in need of family care, he left Frito Lay to join her family business in Hope - Tol-E-Tex Companies.  Later he moved into the hospitality industry managing several Holiday Inn Express units in the south and ultimately returning to Hope, retiring from what he considered a fulfilling role working to construct and manage the Hampton Inn & Suites. Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Viva Ed Thrash Brown and a brother; Dewey Burton Brown.

Hugh was known as a "sweet man" by those who constantly benefitted from his giving presence.  He loved his church homes - First Baptist Church of Hope for decades, and finally Immanuel Baptist Church of Little Rock.  He was especially grateful for the overwhelming support of Immanuel members over the last year as he transitioned from giving to receiving, something quite foreign to him.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church 315 South Main Hope, AR 71801 and Immanuel Baptist Church 501 North Shackelford Rd Little Rock, AR 72211.
