Earl O. Caldwell, age 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on March 2, 2008.

He was born on July 19, 1928 in San Diego. He attended Hoover High School and St. Joseph Seminary, San Diego. Upon leaving the seminary, Earl finished his education at San Diego State University. After graduating from college, Earl enlisted in the Army, spending three years of service in Germany.

Earl taught at Roosevelt Junior High and Pershing High Schools. His teaching career spanned 30 years. Earl was a member of S.A.G.E. and was one of the founding members of Dignity, San Diego.

Earl was predeceased by the love of his life, John Kelsey in 1995. He is survived by his sister, Joanne L. Canfield of El Cajon; one brother Donald M. (Jo Ann) Caldwell of San Diego; three nieces, two nephews, many grand-nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service 6 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2008, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4190 Front St., San Diego, 92103. Burial at 10 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2008, Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego, California 92102. Donations are suggested to Mama's Kitchen, 1875 2nd Avenue, San Diego, California 92101.
