Joshua Mason was born in Preble county, Ohio, Mar. 19th, 1810 and departed this life Apr. 24, 1890, at the residence of his daughter, Sister Sarah Miller. Aug. 14th, 1831, Bro. Mason and Miss Anna Bonebrake were united in marriage and lived happily together until her death at Alma, Jan. 26th, 1885. He leaves four sons and one daughter to mourn the loss of a loving father and many relatives and friends who deeply sympathize with them. Bro. Mason was converted in his youth and has since lived an honest, upright life, and just previous to his death, he claimed to have favor with God and left evidence that all was well with him. He left Ohio in 1838 and resided for a few years in Illinois, then moved to Marion county, Iowa where he lived until 1878, then moved to Harlan county, Nebraska, where he has lived ever since. Since the death of his companion his home has been with his children who lovingly cared for him until his departure.
Funeral services were conducted at the Free Methodist church by the writer, assisted by Rev. Ferguson, pastor of the M.E. church, and the funeral sermon was preached from Hosea 13:14 "I will ransom them from the power of the grave, I will redeem them from death; O death I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction."
The day was cold and rainy but there was a large and attentive congregation at the funeral service after which we laid him to rest beside his wife, till the resurrection morn shall dawn.
