Birth year on marker shows Dec 1898. Birth year on death index is 1895. Birth year indicated by the June 1913 birth certificate of her daughter, Angelina, would be 1893 (Listed as 19 years old) assuming a December birth month as shown on the gravestone marker

9-22-2020 addendum: A certified birth certificate has been obtained from the Ohio State Health Dept for Frances' first born child, Angelina, born June 17, 1913 in Cleveland, Ohio. On the berth certificate, the names of parents are: Father - Francesco Peritore. Mother - Francesca Alesse. Both born in Italy. Francesco is 25 years old (about 1888) and Francesca is 19 (about 1894). Because this is the earliest document I've found that names Frank and Frances as a couple and gives her maiden name as "Alesse" and because her Louisiana death certificate states her maiden name as "Alece", I am inclined to conclude that her maiden name was in fact, Alesse or Alessi (The latter spelling is the most common I've found).

In addition, I've run across several official documents in my research on the Ancestry and Familysearch sites showing the name France Alessi from Italy. I plan to follow up on those documents to see if any would match up to our Frances and what more of her history and family I can discover. I feel this recent find of her maiden name which I consider the most accurate, along with the similar maiden name on her death certificate, satisfactorily answers the questions in the below earlier biography surrounding her identity. ~ Kevin Bounds (Great grandson of Frank and Frances Peritore.
===========================================

There's a lot of unknowns and confusion surrounding Frances Alece Amato Peritiore. On her death certificate, her name is typed as Frances Alece with the name "Amato" written in behind it presumably to be her married name. She is listed as married, born in Illinois, the daughter of Danial Alece & and an unknown mother, both of Italy. The informant on the certificate is listed as a Joe Alece. Place of death was at Joe Alece's residence on "McNeal St.(McNeil). As of yet, I've found no record of a Joe Alece as ever living in Shreveport.

To add to the confusion, the birth certificate of her daughter, Lena Peritore (b, Apr 10, 1915, Houston, Texas, names parents and Frank Peritore and Frances Lorno or Loreno?, both born in Italy.

Although, the certificate and the gravestone both state Frances was named Amato, she was actually the first wife of Frank Peritore and that is who she was in fact married to when she died. Nothing is known for certain of her origins or the actual names of her parents. The story is, she was buried with the name "Amato" for purposes of hiding her whereabouts from her family, so I can't be sure of how much of the info given on her death certificate would be true. The situation with her family will be discussed later in this bio.

There is a New York Passenger arrival list dated Nov. 27, 1912 which includes a female named Francesca Amato, aged 15, (b. abt 1897) from Palmero, Italy. She is listed as south Italian ethnicity, born in Girgenti, Italy. The handwriting is hard to make out but nearest relative is listed as Uncle Guardino (last name Illegible). She's single, but occupation listed as Housewife. (Possibly promised to someone in the states as a bride?). However, it's my belief that this is not the same Frances because first, the death certificate index her maiden name as Alece. (although for reasons I'll explain later, I don't believe that to be true either) And Second, her first child Angelina was supposedly born in Ohio in June of 1912 or 1913 either of which would have meant Frances was already in the states earlier than Nov of 1912 assuming that Angeline (my grandmother) was indeed Frank's daughter and was conceived in the US. (A birth certificate for Angeline has never been found and there is some doubt as to when she was actually born. Even she didn't know for sure.)

There were a total of two children born of the union between Frank & Frances Peritore, Angelina Peritore (Ross) who was discussed above (born in Cleveland, Ohio abt. 1912) & Lena Peritore (born in Houston, Texas abt. 1913). Her death certificate lists her death of complications from a pregnancy ("Eclampsia"). It's said she was with an infant son that also didn't survive.

Regarding the circumstances with her family, apparently, according to stories handed down by family, her family were unhappy about her relationship with Frank. As I mentioned earlier, the name "Amato" was allegedly given to her for burial purposes by her husband, Frank Peritore, presumably to disguise her whereabouts, and possibly his a well. The fact that she was unwed when her children were born, Catholic, and of a young age when she became pregnant with her first child (If the birth year is accurate on her death certificate and grave marker), all could point to the possibility that she and Frank eloped and the reason that he was trying to avoid her family.

As I mentioned before, there is doubt about the names given on her death certificate as being true. It is not certain what her maiden name was. One source I've already mentioned indicates it was "Alece", another source states "Lorno". But a recently discovered marriage certificate for Frank and Frances Peritore dated December 16, 1915 in Harris County, Texas supports that her maiden name was possibly in fact, Peritore. On the certificate, the groom is listed as Frank Peritore and the bride listed as "Miss Frances Peritore" (This was legibly handwritten on the document). It bears Frank's signature closely matches a later signature found on his WWII registration card. So, this opens up the possibility that she may have even been a cousin of some sort to Frank.

Another document which supports that Frances' maiden name was possibly Peritore is the 1920 US Census in Shreveport Caddo Parish, Louisiana. In this census, indexed as "Peretore") Frank Peritore had remarried to Pia Notini after Frances died and in his household in 1920 are found wife, Pia, daughters, Angelina and Lena, stepson, Ralph Sartini and a 24 year old man named Charlie Peretore, b. abt 1896. Although Frank had a brother named Charles, he was born in Italy and this Charlie is listed born in Texas and as "brother-in-law" to the head of household. This would have to be Frances' brother because Pia's maiden name was Notini.

Since Charlie Peritore's birthplace is listed as Texas which would indicate that possibly Frances' family lived in Texas at some point, then Frank may have met Frances in Texas and they went to Ohio for a short time where their first child, Angeline was born. (Frank also had a sister living in Ohio). Then they came back to Texas afterwards. This migration pattern is all speculation of course based on the previously mentioned documents, dates and birthplaces.

Frank signed registration cards for both WWI (registration dated June 5, 1917, Card No. 87) and WWII (dated 1942). He was living in Shreveport, Louisiana at both registration times. In the WWI registration, he lists having two children and "no wife, died".
