Staff Sgt. Scott Alan Snyder, 44, of Moline, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Trinity Rock Island after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. His wife was at his side.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at The Runge Mortuary, 838 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Association of the United States Army. Online condolences may be expressed at www.therungemortuary.com.

Scott was born March 9, 1967, in Davenport. He married Angela J. Giannetti on Oct. 10, 2001, in Rock Island.

Staff Sgt. Snyder joined the United States Army in 1987, stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, and Fort Carson, Colo. In 2002, he joined the Illinois National Guard, touring in Iraq with F Company, 106th Aviation, Peoria, Ill., from 2003-2004 and recently returned from a one-year deployment to Egypt with 2123 FSC, Milan. Among his awards are a Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal and an Army Good Conduct Medal.

Scott believed strongly in service to country and community, serving at one time as a Boy Scout leader, a Little League assistant coach, a board member of Association of the United States Army and belonged to VFW Post 1303, Rock Island. He had a love of astronomy, archeology and science in general.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Giannetti-Snyder, Moline; children, Logan Lauterbach, Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, Skylar, Walcott, Colton and Haley, Moline; mother, Patricia Snyder, Longmont, Colo.; brothers and sisters, Rhonda (Bill) Klauer, Rock Island, Marty McCleave, Milan, Dawn (Bill) Verner, Lafayette, Colo., Ray (Kelly) Snyder, Davenport, Kari (Stephen) Hayes-Blackmoore, Santa Monica, Calif., Clara Griffin, Entiat, Wash., Pat (Danny) Eidson, Oakhurst, Calif., Carole (Richard) Fisher, Azle, Texas, Sally (Bob) Reynolds, Bettendorf, Celiajo (Clyde) Lacarney, Carson City, Nev., Daniel (Marsha) Snyder, Spotslvania, Va.; parents-in-law, Jorge and Mary Giannetti, Moline; and many nieces and nephews with a special place in his heart and a host of soldiers and their families to whom he will be greatly missed.

Scott was preceded in death by his adoring adoptive father, Clyde V. Snyder; his biological father, Clifford, L. "Bud" Sleeper; and a sister, Cindy Vargas.
