Staff Sgt. Scott Alan Snyder, 44, of Moline, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Trinity Rock Island after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. His wife was at his side.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at The Runge Mortuary, 838 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with full military honors. Staff Sgt. Snyder joined the United States Army in 1987, stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, and Fort Carson, Colo. In 2002, he joined the Illinois National Guard, touring in Iraq with F Company, 106th Aviation, Peoria, Ill., from 2003-2004 and recently returned from a one-year deployment to Egypt with 2123 FSC, Milan. Among his awards are a Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal and an Army Good Conduct Medal.
Scott believed strongly in service to country and community, serving at one time as a Boy Scout leader, a Little League assistant coach, a board member of Association of the United States Army and belonged to VFW Post 1303, Rock Island. He had a love of astronomy, archeology and science in general.
