Auguste was born in Wahmbeck, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany. It is known from family church records in Germany, that her mother was Louise Melusine Otte. On 24 Oct 1869, in Trendelburg, Hessen, Germany, she married Burghard Schwenderlauf. Auguste & Burghard had 7 children, as follows:

- Louise Karoline Melusine Schwenderlauf (1869-1951). Wife of Carl Krausch.
- Anna Auguste Elise Marie Schwenderlauf (1871-1873).
- Konrad Friedrich Wilhelm Schwenderlauf (1873-1954). He changed his name to Conrad Williams.

Augusta, dearly beloved wife of Burchard Schwindelauf, and mother of Louise Krausch, Conradi, Fredrick and Theodore Schwindelauf, a native of Germany, aged 66 years, 4 months and 18 days. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service today (Sunday), September 16, at 1:30 o'clock p.m. at her late residence, 1036 Murray Street, West Berkeley. Interment Mountain View Cemetery.
