John F Lippincott
Birth: Dec. 13, 1819
Delaware County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Apr. 17, 1877
East Rochester
Columbiana County
Ohio, USA

John Lippincott's full middle name is unknown to this part of the family. He had a brother, Charles, and may have came from the area north of Philadelphia after losing their father at a young age. Family records indicate Mary Dillon was wed to John Lippincott on April 14, 1844. On an 1858 map of Adams County there is a very small water course named "Lippencot Spring" that comes down off of South Mountain and feeds the headwater of the Conewego. This is on PA 234 about 3/4 of a mile north from U.S. Highway 30 running west out of Gettysburg. Here John and Mary raised their family. Besides farming grain, John may have also been a charcoal maker, as the area is well covered today in second growth trees. This union produced the following;
Orie (male) 12/28/1844-12/28/1844
James Foreman L. 05/04/1846-08/20/1922
John Francis L. 03/10/1848-04/04/1934
Jeremiah Fullerton L. 10/18/1849-10/13/1919
William Bigler L. 08/18/1851-12/28/1899
Charles Andrew L. 09/11/1852-03/25/1861
Sara Delphina L. 01/08/1854-8/25/1854
Ann Rebecca L. 10/03/1855-09/06/1856
Theodore Agustus L. 11/01/1856-03/05/1857
Mary Elizabeth L. 10/28/1858-09/18/1955
Agnes Jane L. 12/22/1859-01/08/1861
Anestacia L. 09/26/1861-March 1862
Jacob Lewis L. 10/16/19862-03/23/1863
Mary (Dillon) Lippincott died on April 17, 1863, three weeks after the death of her thirteenth delivery (and eighth loss of a child). She had just passed her 38th birthday. Ten weeks later Confederate General R. E. Lee's Army was to march by on the pike from Chambersburg to enter the Battle of Gettysburg. It is said that wounded rebels were tended to on the Lippincott farm and in the house.
Many Dillon family members rest in this lovely country cemetery. However, any marker for Mary Lippincott's grave may have long since disintegrated or been lost. The exact location is also unknown as there was a bad fire of the Church building in the early part of the 20th century that destroyed most of the Sexton's records.
John then moved west to Ohio and married Margaret Hendrix on March 28, 1871 who gave him three more children, all sons.
Edmund Fernetta L. 02/13/1872-07/06/1959
Joseph Hendrix L. 10/14/1873-04/16/1956
Jesse Howard L. 08/22/1875-10/18/1947
After John's death, Margaret married a Mr. Rudy. John is buried in a Hendrix family plot in Hanoverton, Ohio, so Margaret's parents may be Isaac M Hendrix 1814-1877 and Ester Hendrix 1817-1892.
Submitter is the son of H.R.L. Jr., son of H.R.L., son of J.W.L., son of the second son, James Foreman Lippincott.
