Sisters Anna and Hattie Roberts married brothers William S. and John D. Fagg.

After she married Will Fagg, Hattie lived on the Fagg family farm on Lick Fork, near Stoneville, in Rockingham County until 1953. The house had a good well with cold, clear water. She cooked fine meals on a woodstove in the kitchen. There was an outhouse out back. The house did not get electricity and a phone until the early 1930's. In fact, the phone came first. Electricity came as a result of the Rural Electrification Project. Like many houses in the area, the house had an alcove off the living room with a guest bed. This house was a side-by-side duplex, and the Faggs rented the left side of the house to the Autin family.

As a child, I hunted on the property and fished in the creek. One of the treats of visiting the place was the two large fig trees in the front yard. Of course, the main treat was visiting this quiet, kind woman who was my grandmother and who adored children.

(Paraphrased from an obituary): Born in the Price District of Rockingham County in 1870, Hattie Fagg died at 84 in the Maryfield Convalescent Home in High Point where she had been a patient for 10 months. She had been in declining health for several years. (She had, in fact, broken her hip about 6 weeks after moving into a new addition on her daughter's house in High Point added especially for her. In those days, surgeons did not pin or replace broken hips. They simply put their patients to bed.)

A native of Stoneville, She was the widow of William S. Fagg. She had been living in High Point a daughter, Mrs. P. J. (Grace) Neal.

Other survivors include five sons: Merlin E. and Ralph R., both of Kernersville, James F. of Roanoke, VA, Daniel. W. of Mount Olive, NC, and William S. of High Point; three sisters, Mrs. Smyth (Lennie) Eggleston and Mrs. J. Burton (Eva) Sapp, both of Leaksville, and Mrs. H. C. (Minnie) Valentine, Clinton; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Stoneville Christian Church with burial at Stoneville Cemetery.
