Army Pfc. Mack was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado as a computer analyst. Mack jumped into the Euphrates River near the Hadithah Dam, west of Ar Ramadi, to take a swim and did not resurface. A search party found his body downstream on August 24. Vorn, known as "Jimmy", was the son of a sergeant major and grew up on the move among Army posts. He was a member of the Orangeburg Wilkinson High School class of 2002 and an honors student who loved math, computers and a challenge. Jimmy joined the Army Reserve his senior year and left Orangeburg shortly after he got his diploma. He was a good student with a special interest in history. Jimmy was 5-foot-3 and 115 pounds but compensated by fearlessly wrestling bigger, stronger soldiers. He once jumped on the back of a sergeant a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier; he didn't back down from anyone or anything. He enjoyed swimming, playing Dungeons and Dragons, Monopoly, and computers.
