Nancy 'Eveline' Hall was born to James J Hall and Catherine Jane Spence Drew Hall in 1862. Eveline had 5 older sisters and 1 older brother. They lived and farmed in Emanuel County.

In 1878 Eveline wed Joseph L Johnson and began a family of her own. Family was always very important to Eveline and she named several of her children after her own family. Two of her daughters were named after her sisters...Mosel and Laura Jane. One son was named after her father James J Hall, and another son shared the name of her brother, Henry. Joseph's family wasn't left out though---they named daughter Lucy in honor of Joseph's sister Lucy, son Roan after Joseph's brother and grandfather and William Benjamin after Joseph's own father. The name Beneta or Neta is repeated in the generations also after Joseph's mother Benetta Sherrod.

My grandmother, Laura Jane said her mother Eveline used to smoke a pipe. She could recall her sitting on the porch and smoking the pipe. Her Daddy, Joseph, would set folks straight if they tried to call Eveline anything else...not Evelyn, but Eveline, he would admonish.
