Served in Co. I, 24th Mississippi Infantry. He was wounded in a battle near Griffin GA and was transferred to a veterans hospital in Griffin where he died. He and his brother, Jesse Hackley Key, served with General Bragg. Both were killed. Their commanding officer was J.M. McWilliams.
