Graduated from Galena High School and attended Pittsburg State University.
He then worked as a chemist at Eagle-Picher Industries.
A businessman at heart, he took over the family business, a small grocery store and meat market on Main Street in Galena.
Working side by side with his father, he grew the storefront operation into a small supermarket.
Joseph's Market was not just a successful business, but a warm and inviting place where family and friends loved to gather.
His other business ventures included partnering with his brother-in-law, Bill Courtright in purchasing and operating Milo Chew Drugstore in Baxter Springs, Kan.
He also developed and built several commercial properties and two convenience stores.
Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors of American Bank in Baxter Springs, for several years.
BIO FOR JOHN'S FATHER JAPPOUR JOSEPH
JAPPOUR JOSEPH, 74 years old, of 701 Galena avenue, passed away at 7 o'clock Friday morning in St. John's hospital at Joplin, Mo., where he had been a patient one day, but had been in ill health several weeks.
Mr. Joseph was born at Boxmaya El Batroun, Republic of Lebanon, August 17, 1892. He came to Galena in 1919, was naturalized a United States citizen in 1930.
He owned and operated a grocery market in Galena. Mr. Joseph was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church.
Married to Miss Martha Farris
in 1929 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
This union was blessed with six children,
all of whom survive.

*Mrs. Debe Mafraech of Beirut Lebanon;
seven grandchildren and a host of friends.
Rosary and prayers were recited in the St. Patrick's Catholic church on Sunday evening, December 18, at 7:30 o'clock. Requiem Mass was held at 10 o'clock Monday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church, with Father Joseph T. Nolan as celebrant.
Pallbearers were Ernie Farris, George Farris, Sam Farris, John Farris Sam Ferson and Dr. Charles Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Pete Mousour, John, Nogal, George Abraham, Dives Ray, Bruce Thomas and Nick Farris.
He was laid to rest in Hill Crest cemetery with Derfelt funeral home in charge of arrangements.
