Sarah Helena "Lena" McDougall Light
Birth: Nov. 24, 1884
Kansas, USA
Death: Apr., 1973
Webb City
Jasper County
Missouri, USA

First marriage to Earnest Wallace
Together they adopted a son, Eugene Earnest Wallace

Lena worked as a housekeeper for many well-to-do families over her life. In the 1920's she used to travel back and forth between Chicago, where she would find work, and Hockerville, Ottawa county, OK., where her mother lived. Her son would stay with her mother (his grandmother) while she worked and she would come home for different periods of time.

In the 1930's she obtained work in Carthage, Missouri for Mr. Charles Blair. His wife passed away in 1931 and she and her son moved into Mr. Blair's home at 1155 South Main Street, Carthage, Missouri and she worked as the cook and housekeeper there until Mr. Blair died in 1949.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage

Her son Eugene, graduated in 1937 from Carthage High School.

She then obtained employment as the manager of the Robertson Apartments in Joplin, Missouri. She remained at that job until she retired. She continued to live in the Robertson until 1972 when she became too feeble and ill to live alone. She then was moved to Elmhurst Nursing home in Webb City, Missouri where she passed away quietly in 1973.

Survivors included her son Eugene,
a granddaughter Nancy and
a great-grandson Michael Christopher Wilson

several nieces and nephews.

Lena will always be remembered for her excellent cooking skills, her feisty, self determined personality.
She was a wonderful grandma!
She did a lot of hand sewing and made many doll clothes for her granddaughter's dolls , and also made several decorative padded inserts for the doll cribs and doll buggies.

Remembering all the little dolly blankets and clothes you hand sewed for all my dolls. Also the McCall's magazines you saved so I could have the Betsy McCall paper dolls out of them. Love and miss you Grandma.
