Navy Counselor 1st Class Morton was assigned to Naval Security Force, Naval Support Activity Bahrain. She was found dead at her residence in Qalali, Muharraq, Bahrain. Her death is under investigation. Cherie graduated from West Rockford High School and settled in Bakersfield, California where her son lives. He is due to graduate from high school at the end of the month. She was a 15-year veteran and the Command Career Counselor for Naval Security Force and NSA Bahrain. She provided career information to hundreds of enlisted sailors assigned to both NSA and Navy Region Southwest Asia. Cherie was a bright light who inspired others to join the Navy. She was twice awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the Good Conduct Medal on four occasions.
