Trista was a member of the Girl Scouts (or "Girlie" Scouts, as she called them) and the Drama Club at Newburyport High school. She also played on the NHS Soccer Team. Trista was killed by a drunk drive as she was walking with her boyfriend down a quiet neighborhood street on a snowy January night.
The driver fled the scene, nearly hitting another car, then rolled his Blazer farther down the road. He was uninjured. When he was arrested after a short chase, police found 32 empty beer cans in his vehicle. Police said he was so drunk he couldn't stand up without help.
I visit her gravesite quite often and there's a feeling of spirit there that makes me wish I had known her in this life. Every time I go visit, there is without fail, a fat little squirrel that comes around and actually hovers by Trista's space. He's very funny and both me and Trista's Mom believe that Trista send him to say hello! I have become friends with Trista's mother, Mary and learned so much about Trista. This is a very close, loving family and they obviously miss her so much.
I wonder what tremendous contribution she would have no doubt made to her community, had she been given the chance. This senseless event ended the life of a young girl who was loved by so many people...and is still.
