ULYSSES G. "SPARKY" WALLER, SR., the son of Ulysses S. and Savannah Waller, was born April 9, 1924 in Mount Vernon, Indiana. The early years of his life were spent in Mount Vernon, where he joined Bethel AME Church.
He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Mount Vernon, Indiana and served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He recieved his Honorable Discharge in November 1945.
After the service, he was employed as a crane operator for the Veneer Plant in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then worked for Chrysler Corporation and retired after 34 years of service. He loved his volunteer work at Flanner House as Youth Director for several years. He was affiliated with the Dust Bowl and President at Ozark Ike for years.
On February 8, 1943, he was united in marriage to Florence Elizabeth Dimmitt, who preceded him in death in 2004. This union produced four loving children: Judy (Waller) Edwards, Pamela Waller-Wood, Garland Waller, and Keith Waller.
