Murlin S. Dorei--Murlin Stuart Dorei, only son of Frederick and Elizabeth Dorei, was born June 30, 1896 at Reserve, Kansas and departed from this life November 3, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. At an early age he was united with the Reserve Christian Church, and when the family moved to Hamlin, he became a member of the United Brethren Church. He was a graduate of Pittsburg State Teacher's College. He was a veteren of World War I, being a member of the 130th Field Artillery Band. In 1930, he was married to Lurah Killoren of Powhattan. To this union was born one son, William Richard. He was an instructor of Public School Music in Brown county before moving to Oskaloosa in 1943, where he was on the school faculty until his retirement in 1962. In 1947 the family moved to their present farm home near McLouth. Mr. Dorei was a fifty year member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion. Survivors include his wife Lurah, of the home, a son William Richard, two granddaughters, a grandson, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Hern of Hiawatha. Funeral services were held at the McLouth United Methodist Church, November 5, with the Rev. Don Peckham, assisted by Rev. Ira Brammell officiating. Soloist was William Rhodes, Honorary Casket bearers were Clyde Morris, Martin Miller and Ray Bachman of Topeka, Henry Streator, Wyatt Gragg and Ira Brammell. Casket bearers were Don Rhodes, Rae Shufflebarger, Keith LeGer, Jack Westphal, Stanley Braksick, and Roy McAferty. Assisting with the flowers were Miss Kathleen Henshaw and Mrs. Jerold Griffitts. Interment was in the McLouth Cemetery. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
