Howard June Fowler was born in Salt Creek Township, Holmes County, Ohio to James Brewster Fowler and Hannah Painter. The family moved to Fresno, California in 1877. Howard married Carrie Payne Russell in 1882 and they purchased 160 acres of farm land in Warthan Canyon near Coalinga in Fresno County, California.
Howard was the father of three children, a daughter Carrie Helen Fowler b. 1883, and twin boys George Russell and Edward Harry Fowler, b. 1885. Howard and Carrie divorced and Howard lived with his father and brother Gilbert until his death in 1911.
Howard is buried next to his mother Hannah in Warthan Cemetery very near the land he once owned. The cemetery is now on private property but is still accessible. Howard has no headstone.
