Cloyd Franklin FOSTER Sr. is my maternal grandfather. He was probably the most well balanced person I ever met. He had blue-gray eyes.
He was born in Altoona in 1893, but he is listed on the 1900 Census at age 6 living in Huntingdon. He was the second child of Andrew Jackson FOSTER (1843-1911) and Clara Morton (LONG) FOSTER (1858-1912). His older sister was Bertha Maude (FOSTER) (HEARN) KROH (1891-1974)
He lost both of his parents not too long before he was eighteen years old. At that point he was living at home with his sister Maude and their mother's mother, Hannah.
He then served in World War II in France, writing regular postcards back to his sweetheart, Mabel Mae HALL, in Huntingdon.
After the war, he came home and married Mabel Mae HALL on September 30, 1919. On the 1920 Census he is living with his wife Mabel in the home of her German parents at 1714 Washington Street in Huntindon. They had four children:
1. France Elizabeth FOSTER (1920-2008)
2. Living FOSTER
3. Cloyd Franklin Jr. (1924-1999)
4. Helen Kathleen "Kathy" FOSTER(1929-2008)
He died peacefully in his sleep at home while sitting in his easy chair. On his lap was a photo of my youngest brother in is high school football uniform. He had been looking at the photo just before he peacefully passed on.
