Brooks D. Morr, 81, Loved the Church, His Family and Singing 1st Tenor

Brooks D. Morr, 81 of Nankin, Ohio died December 6, 2013 in the Hospice House of Ashland County.

He was born December 31, 1931 in rural Nankin to Cleveland F. and Nellie Sprinkle Morr. Brooks resided in the Nankin area for more than 60 years and worked for Western and Southern Life Insurance Company for 34 years where he held positions of agent and then branch manager of the Ashland Branch.

After his retirement, he worked for Council on Aging. He was a member of the Nankin Federated Church all his life and served the church as Adult Sunday School teacher for 35 years, served on the Administrative Council, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, sang tenor in the choir, Lay Delegate to the East Ohio Methodist Conference for over 25 years and also was Building Chairman for the added addition to the church and he was a former Methodist Lay Speaker in the East Ohio Conference and the first president of the original group.

He was also a member of the former Nankin Lions Club and at one time served as Secretary of the Nankin Fire Department.
He was a former member of the Mansfield Symphony Chorus, Ashland University Area Chorus, East Ohio Methodist Conference choir and the Lakeside Choral Society, and the original Ashland Barbershop Chorus.

He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served at Ft. Meade, M.D. in the 2nd Army Drum and Bugle Corp, 2nd Army Band, and then became a member of the 2nd Army Honor Guard and was Post Bugler for funeral details for the Baltimore National Cemetery.

On November 24, 1954 he was married in Baltimore, M.D. to Arlene D. (Jones) Morr who survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Saundra Jo (Kenny) Purdy of Norwalk, OH and Kathy Lynn (David) Franklin of Ashland and one son Dean Alan (Rhonda) Morr of Ashland; six grandchildren, Kenny Purdy Jr, Joseph Purdy, Nickolas (Melody) Jordan, Tara Jordan, Brittany Morr and Brooke (Shane) Kipp; one brother, Dwight E. (Bernice) Morr of Ashland; nieces and nephews; and five great grandchildren.

His parents; two brothers, John and Farrel; and one sister, Jeanette preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. in the Nankin Federated Church with Pastor Pat Edington officiating. A private burial service will take place in the Nankin Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Nankin Federated Church, 795 State Route 302, Ashland, OH 44805 or to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
