John Robert Hughes was the son of Robert Levi Hughes and Nell E. Milam Hughes. He loved the Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. He served his country during the Korean War. In Paris, TX he opened a business school and a beauty college. He wasn't afraid to try different things. His real passion was for race horses. He liked the betting part, but he liked being a trainer/owner more than anything. When he started his family he settled into working a "regular" job. He worked many years for E-Systems now known as L3. He was married to Marguerite A. Heald Gowin.
