PROCTOR, Joseph Laughlin 'Lockie' - 77, Evanston. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Laughlin 'Lockie' Proctor who dieds uddenly at home in Evanston on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Born in Evanston on October 11, 1932, he was a son of the late Basil and Rita (Poirier) Proctor. Lockie was a kind, gentle, loving husband, father and 'Papa'. He was awell-known member of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Lower River Inhabitants and St. Patrick's Parish, Whiteside. Lockie was also known for tolling the church bell and calling the local bingo's in Lower River. When Lockie was young, he worked for the CNR and Nova Scotia Pulp Industry. Lockie had anamazing sense of humour. He made friends easily and was always there to lend a helping hand. He lived life to the fullest and just recently fought a courageous battle with throat cancer. He loved sports such as hockey and baseball and took great pleasure in watching his family play softball. Lockie was an avid bingo and card player and Lockie was and always will be remembered for his quick wit. Lockie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Pauline (MacNamara), Evanston; sons, Gerard (Karen Adams), and Steve,both of Evanston; Darren (Jennifer), Port Hawkesbury; daughters, Rose Mary Haigh, Port Hawkesbury; Arlene (Barry MacQuarrie), Evan-ston; and Sheila Knox (Steve McLaren), Antigonish; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;sisters-in-law, Marie Cogswell, Evanston; Sarah McNamara, Port Hawkesbury;brother-in-law, Raymond McNamara, Whiteside. He will be missed by his companion Missy, his dog. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Dougie;sister, Bernice Hearn; and brothers, Clement and Jack Proctor. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation will be 2-9 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass to be held 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Whiteside, at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made in Lockie's memory to St.Patrick's Cemetery Fund or MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
