Glory Avenue

Once I lived on Wicked Street
The rent was awfully high
The devil was my landlord
And misery lived nearby

And then I met my Jesus
You can meet him too
That's how I moved from
Wicked Street
To Glory Avenue

Now I live with Jesus
He saved me from my sin
He cleansed my heart
He made me whole
He gave me peace within

So Jesus saves and keeps me
And he will keep you too
If you will move from
Wicked Street to Glory Avenue

Anchorage Daily News December 21, 1997

Anchorage resident Carol R. Hancock died in her sleep Nov. 15, 1997, while visiting her mother and sister in Vancouver, Wash., because of complications associated with diabetes. She was 57. A funeral was held at Vancouver Baptist Temple. The Rev. Allen Turner officiated. Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Mrs. Hancock was born Carol Ruth White on July 13, 1940, in Redding, Calif. She had lived in Vancouver until her marriage to Donald Hancock in 1959. She moved to Anchorage 10 years ago and was a homemaker. Her family said: ''Two of the things that gave her tremendous pleasure in life were seeing children learn about the promises of God and cooking for anyone who enjoyed eating good food. The staff at Anchorage Christian School and Anchorage Baptist Temple will miss her cinnamon rolls.'' After her family and church, her great love was traveling, which she had ample opportunity to do during the course of her husband's military career. She has lived in Japan, Germany, Nevada, California, Washington and North Dakota. The only states she missed in her travels were the ones in the extreme northeast part of the country. The family added that Mrs. Hancock has ''passed into the presence of the Lord.'' Two of their grandchildren, James and Nicole Hancock of Oak Harbor, Wash., lived with Mrs. Hancock and her husband for three years in Anchorage.

Mrs. Hancock is survived by her husband, Donald of Anchorage; four children, Bryan of Pasco, Wash., Donna Hummel, currently living in Japan, James Hancock of Virginia Beach, Va., and Paul Hancock of Nashville, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; her mother and two sisters of Vancouver; one sister of Seaside, Ore.; one sister of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and a brother of Yelm, Wash. Four sisters and her father preceded her in death. Arrangements were by Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver.
