Death: Aug. 2, 1995

My Daddy. He married my mom Eileen January 11, 1965 and I came along May 25,1965. He loved fishing, hunting, coin collecting, and taking in a good baseball game on a warm summers evening. Dad worked for the State of Utah for over 26 years, when his health began to grow worse from many years of smoking. He had been given just 6 months to live, so he had to take a medical retirement. He was homebound, and on oxygen for the last 3 years of his life, so he was able to live longer than expected. I spoke with him the the night of August 1, 1995, and had a wonderful conversation with him. I was going through a messy seperation with my now ex. It was rough, but I was doing better. I worked late that night, so when the call from my mom came very early the next morning, I knew it was time for him to leave us. Mom told me his last thoughts were about me. He asked her if she thought I was going to be okay. She told him that I will be just fine. He then closed his eyes and passed away. My dad was very partial to the song "Beyond the Sunset" and had said for as long as I could remember that he wanted that to be played for him at his funeral. The night he passed, Mom and I were together, and the sunset that night was the most beautiful sunset we had ever seen, the colors were so bright, rich and breathtaking. I believe he sent it to us to let us know he was okay. There was only one other night I can remember ever seeing a sunset that beautiful, and that was the night my Mom passed, just a few years later.

My Dad found this poem shortly before he passed. He made my Mom promise him 2 things: 1-Do NOT bury him with a tie, and 2-Have this poem read for him. She kept both promises.

Don't cry at my grave cause I won't be there. I'll be in the breeze that ruffles in your hair.

I'll be there in the sunshine, I'll be there in the snow. I'll be there in the places where we used to go.

I'll be in your laughter, and in funny things. I'll be in your shadow and there in your dreams.

I'll be in your greetings, but not in your goodbyes. I'll be in the reflection of your loving eyes.

I'll always be with you, and I'll always care. So don't cry at my graveside cause I won't be there.
