This was my Aunt Leta, my grandmother's sister.
She was born in Rigby, ID, to Solomon Lee and Mary Vernetta "Nettie" Bates. Her siblings included two brothers, Jack and Donald, and two sisters, Norma and Helen. As a young girl, she came to Pocatello with her parents. She graduated from Pocatello High School and attended the ISU Vocational Technical School.
She married Joseph "Joe" Delquadri on January 17, 1938, in Ogden, UT. They had two sons: Joseph C. and Dennis.
She was employed as an aviation mechanic at the Pocatello Army Air Base during World War II, and also worked at the Walla Walla, WA, Air Base.
From 1960 to 1969, she was employed in the maintenance department of Idaho State University.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Her hobbies were square dancing, sewing, traveling, baking, and gardening. She was also an avid reader.
Leta developed early on what I recently learned to be Alzheimer's. I remember going to visit her and her husband in 1978, when I was nearly 10, and we children were not allowed in the house for fear we'd be frightened by her appearance. I did catch a glimpse of her through the open screen door, however--- I remember seeing what appeared to be a woman sitting in a reclining chair, her head tipped to one side, drool dripping from her mouth. I'm told I couldn't have seen that, but I don't know what else I could have seen that would make me think I'd seen what I described.
Eventually Leta was put into a nursing home in 1980. Her husband passed away in January 1986, and Aunt Leta passed away the following month.
