William T. Culver, or Thornton W. Culver (census and military records show both) is the son of Levin and Sarah Culver. He is the father of Maud, Inez, Charles Clinton, Ralph L., Nettie P., and Jesse Earl Culver. He married Marietta Lee on June 18, 1853.

He enlisted in Company "C" of the 164th Ohio National Guard on May 02, 1864. He was honorably discharged from service on August 27, 1864 at Cleveland, Ohio.

He is described as being 6'-00" tall with blue eyes, black hair, and dark complexion.

Died of pleurisy, at his residence, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, ohio, on the 16th alt, T. W. Culver, aged 36 years. At a regular meeting of Hildreth Lodge No. 165, of F. and A.M., the following resolutions were adopted:
Whereas, Brother T.W. Culver has been called, by death, from among us, and, whereas, it is proper to express our sorrow and submission to the dispensation of Divine Providence, as well as our sympathy with the bereaved relatives of the deceased, therfore,
Resolved, That in the removal, by death, of our brother, we acknowledge the justice of God, and resigned y, though very sorrowfully, submit his divine will.
Resolved, that in the death of Brother Culver, his wife has lost a loving husband, his children a kind and indulgent father, his widowed mother a dutiful son, those who lived near him an obliging neighbor, the community, generally, a valuable citizen, and our Order a good and respected member.
Resolved, That we certainly sympathize with the bereaved wife and family of our brother for the irreparable loss they have sustained.
Resolved, That the Secretery be instructed to convey to the widow and family of the deceased, the sympathy of this Lodge, in a letter of condolence, together with a copy of these resolutions.
Resolved, That the brethern wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days, and that the Lodge room be draped in mourning for the same length of time.
Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the Senceca Advertiser and Tiffin Tribune.
