Born March 17, 1939, at a mid-wife's home in Pembroke Ontario, to Samuel Ormond Blackwell and Violet May Burman. Their home was in Cobden, Ontario a few miles east of Pembroke and that is where Burman grew up. He was the middle of five children with two brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, Michigan with a degree in business he joined Shawnee Mission Medical Center as its first Director of Personnel. He also served as Personnel Director for Garnac Grain, a Swiss company. He was always interested in antiques and palentology and spent his latter years following those interests.
He was married on May 30, 1965 in Brookfield, Illinois, and later divorced.
They had a daughter that died within a few days of being born, and two sons who survive him.
