Son of Robert and Mary (Mounts) Batson.
Husband of Nancy Clayton Hughes and Tugy Owens.
Nathaniel was a Civil War Veteran. At age 40 he Enlisted in Company M, Missouri Greene County Home Guard Infantry Regiment, Union as a Private. He was with a detachment in the battle of Wilson's Creek, August 10, 1861. Company M was disbanded August 17, 1861.
