Daniel was my dad. In 1986, he was riding his 3 wheeler ATV on his parents farm in Kenna, West Virginia. He hit a tree and died 2 days later. He was not wearing a helmet, I am an avid supporter of helmet laws. If my dad had used a helmet that day, he may very well still be here. He never regained conciousness. They did numerous brain activity tests with no activity shown at all. My grandmother once told me that she never hopes any of us ever be put in a situation like that, turning off his life support was the hardest thing she ever had to do. He wanted his organs donated, and they were. He lives on through the people he has helped. His parents sued the company that manufactured the ATV, his case was one of the cases that resulted in the banning of 3 wheelers. I was 6 and my sister Kari was 3 when he died. It is a scar I have carried for almost 20 years, and it is still just as painful today as it ever was.
He loved nothing more than being outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, swimming in a river or pond. His tree stand still stands in the big oak behind his headstone. He had two girls, but he took us to do all that stuff with the guys, camping and swimming in the creek was my favorite. He would have loved my boys so much. I am sure if he were here, he would be doing those things with them now. My dads best friend Wayne, is going to take my oldest on his first hunting trip in the spring. He is doing what my daddy would have done. Wayne is a big part of my life, I feel like by having him in my life I get to keep that part of my dad alive.
I was a daddys girl, and I miss him so much. He was so special, not just to me, but he touched the lives of all who knew him.
He is buried in the Lawrence Family Cemetery next to his nephew Mark, and behind his parents who both died in 2005. I miss you and love you very much daddy, I hope I have made you proud. ~*~Sleep Sweetly~*~
**Special Thank You to Rita Miracle for sponsering my dads memorial, you are a very special lady, and I look forward to getting to know you better! You hold a special place in my heart**
