Mrs. R. F. (sic R. H.) Manly was burned to death about two o'clock Tuesday morning when her home was destroyed by fire. She was 75 years old.
The residence was located in ward 3 just north of Critchett's Mill or Burlington. Mrs. Manly occupied the home alone.
According to Coroner S. H. Brown and Sheriff J. W. King, who were called to the scene, Mrs. Manly's body was found near the stove. Mrs. Kirkland, a daughter who resides nearby, states that she was awakened about two o'clock in the morning and saw her mother's home on fire, and thinking that her mother had undoubtedly escaped, went to arouse neighbors' nearby. But when they got to the scene of the blaze, the roof was falling in.
Mrs. Manly's husband died several years ago. The family moved to ward 3 many years ago from across the river at Riverton.
Besides Mrs. Kirkland, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Fred Childers who resides in Monroe and a son, Steve Manly, of Riverton.
Interment was made in the Columbia cemetery the following day.
