Michael Gipson Law, 49, of Fairfield, passed away on June 2, 2007, at home with peace, grace and dignity after a courageous six-year battle with cancer.
Michael is the beloved husband of Kirsty Law; loving and dedicated father of Sara Law, Jennifer Leete and Brittany Law; and dear grandpa of Logan Michael Trivitt.
Michael is also survived by his sister Patsy Sullivan and husband, Mike; sister Joy Brown and husband, Allan; sister Marie McGhee and husband, James; sister Lynn Fehr; brother Douglas Law and wife, Annette.
He is preceded in death by his father, Buford Gipson Law, and mother, Lidie Mae Law. Michael is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other cherished extended family and longtime friends.
Born in Richmond, Michael was a lifelong resident of California for 49 years. Michael graduated from Harry Ells High School, Class of 1975 and the Los Medanos Police Academy in 1985.
Michael's career as a peace officer spanned 21 years with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department. He often reflected on this passage: "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9
Upon Michael's retirement, he was honored by his coworkers and colleagues and was presented with awards of valor, recognition of service, and the overwhelming appreciation of the entire Contra Costa County family. His positive attitude, loyalty, perseverance, and exemplary service were an inspiration to all.
Michael will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his great love of the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Rams, his unrivaled integrity and commitment made to his family, friends and law enforcement community. Michael graciously shared his impeccable cooking for family and friends.
His humor, optimism and quiet eloquence made him a favorite speaker at gatherings and his love of karaoke and passion for singing to his cherished wife, Kirsty, made him quite an entertainer.
Michael was a fighter to the end, dedicated to his beloved family, friends, community and law enforcement family.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek. A funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette.
