Spec Nichole Marie Frye
Birth: Apr. 10, 1984
Oconto County
Wisconsin, USA
Death: Feb. 16, 2004, Iraq

Specialist Frye, of Lena, Wisconsin, was the daughter of Jayme and Lisa (Ness) Frye. Education was very important to Nichole, and she studied hard while also serving as an FFA officer, and a majorette and flute player for the band for 8 years. She worked at Wayne's Family Restaurant as a waitress and at Wagner's Super Market throughout her high school years. After graduating from Lena High School in 2002, she joined the Army Reserves as a way to raise money for everything she wanted to achieve- an education, a home and a family. She very much wanted to become a police officer or a firefighter. She deployed to Iraq in January 2004 assigned to Company A, 415th Civil Affairs Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, Kalamazoo, Michigan. Just before she left, she was busy taking care of her mother who just had major back surgery. Nichole was hesitant to leave her mother, but knew that her desire to help others was also something she wanted to do. She planned on doing her enlistment, then attend North East Wisconsin Technical College to train to be a firefighter. As a civil affairs specialist, Nichole was part of a team helping to rebuild the war-torn country. They delivered supplies like water, food and books to the children of Iraq. She was killed when her convoy encountered an improvised explosive device near the town of Baqubah, Iraq. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Nichole is survived by her parents, Jayme and Lisa; sister, Crystal; brother, William; grandparents, Jim and Carol Frye; Gordon and Merlene Ness; an adopted grandmother, Connie Bunker; her fiance, Jeremy Stumpf; and several other relatives. Nichole's love of education is continued through a scholarship in her name at her high school. Bio by: Sue
