Violet Mary Sheaffer, 78, a retired Lancaster General Hospital food service employee, died Tuesday at Hamilton Arms Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Formerly of 348 Maple Avenue, she had lived at the center for the past 2 1/2 years. She was the widow of the late Edward C. Sheaffer who died in 1969. A lifelong resident of Lancaster, she retired in 1970. She was a former member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Addie Naomi (Beach) Miller. Surviving are eight children, Kenneth Swinehart, Salinas, CA; June Hemming, CA; Jack Hemming, Ephrata; Charles E.(Ruth) Sheaffer, Gilbert A.(Bernadine), Gordon L. (Donna), Leah C (Donald) Wolf all of Lancaster; Thomas E.(Carol) Lititz and the following grandchildren, Joyce A. Sheaffer, Charles E. Sheaffer, Jr, June L. Sheaffer, Gilbert A. Sheaffer, Jr., Michael Sheaffer, Donna Smith, Michelle Y. Sheaffer, Gordon L. Sheaffer Jr., Hoyt E. Roark Jr, Thomas E. Sheaffer Jr. all of Lancaster. She is also survived by a great grandchild and a sister, Hazel Kneisley, New Providence. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Ronald, Rose Marie and an unknown infant Sheaffer. Funeral services will be held at the Fred F. Groff Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
