obit from the Lexington Dispatch:
"From Delmar
Again the grim harvestor has been among us. This week we have to chronicle the death of J. Ira Price of the Simpson's Ferry section which occurred last Friday morning. Mr. Price had suffered intensely for the past couple weeks from double bronchial pneumonia and all that loving and trained hands could do was of no avail. He was in his 61st year and leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, 2 sons and 4 daughters, besides several grandchildren and a large concourse of relatives and friends. Two children preceded him in death. For nearly 25 years the Price family had lived in that community, having moved from the Priceville section of Lexington County of which both Mr. Price and his wife were natives. Mr. Price was a true friend of man and to know him was to love him. Nobody spoke ill of him nor his family, who all were desirable neighbors, and he will be greatly missed. The bereaved family who are among the most appreciative patrons of the rural mail route served by your correspondent, have the sincerest sympathy of the whole neighborhood and of all who knew them."

He was attended by Dr. J.J. Dominick, MD of Prosperity
from Jan 8 until Jan 13.

While the census forms always list his occupation as "farmer", he was also a carpenter. The Bible stand he built for "Hollow Creek" Lutheran Church is still kept in the building. It is also said that he built the pulpit for another church in Columbia.
His niece Thelma (Price) Snelgrove remembers that he would gather all the local children on weekends and drive them to the zoo in Columbia.
