Mildred was born on August 3, 1903 in Mason City, Iowa, the youngest of 5 children born to immigrant parents. Her father George Buck was from a Canadian family, and her mother Emily Mottershead Buck was born in England. Mildred spent her childhood in Mason City, and graduated high school there in 1920.

In 1922 she married Bernard Pixley, of Irwin, Iowa. They had three children together, but then Mildred's health took a turn for the worse. In 1929 the family moved to Southern California in an effort to improve her health, but she died there in May 1930 of colon cancer. Her body was brought back to Mason City to be buried with her family.


Body Will Be Brot Here From Long Beach for Interment

Mrs. Bernard H. Pixley, who left Mason City in October 1929, died at Long Beach, Cal., Saturday. She was operated on Dec. 14, 1929 for acute appendicities [sic]. It was then discovered that she was also suffering from a lingering illness and she gradually became worse.

The body will be sent from Long Beach Tuesday and will arrive here early Friday morning on the Rock Island Railroad. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Was Born Here
Mrs Pixley whose maiden name was Mildred Helen Buck, was born in Mason City, Aug. 3, 1903. She was graduated from the local High School in 1920 and attended Hamilton Business university. Then she was a stenographer at the North-Western Bell telephone company.

She was married July 3, 1922 to Bernard H Pixley who was employed in Mason City as lineman for the People's Gas and Electric company. In October Mr. and Mrs. Pixley and family moved to California where they intended to make their home.

Survived By Parents
Mrs. Pixley is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Buck 307 Seventh Street southeast, her husband and three children, Shirley Jean 7, and Ruth Eleanor and Bernard Winfield, twins who are aged three years. Her sister, Mrs. R.J. Hughes, 804 Maryland avenue southeast, and brother, Frank M. Buck, Dallas, Tex. are also living.

Mrs. Pixley was active in the Methodist Sunday School activities previous to her marriage and was a member of this church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine and Rebekahs. Before going to California, Mr. and Mrs. Pixley resided at 712 Georgia avenue southeast.
Mr. and Mrs. Buck have been in Long Beach because of the poor health of their daughter.
