Mary (Jenny) Jane James Richart
Birth: Jul. 3, 1856
Elmbridge Borough
Surrey, England
Death: Sep. 27, 1925
Hand County
South Dakota, USA

From the Wessington South Dakota "Times Enterprise" issue of Friday October 2, 1925:

"Mrs. Jennie Richart retired on Saturday night about the usual hour, apparently as well as usual. She had never been a strong and rugged woman, but she was seldom seriously ill and was always active in theperformance of the household dutied. About half past three Sunday morning she called to the children, who hastened to her bedside and found her gasping for breath. Everything possible was done to relieve her, but to no avail, and in about 20 minutes she had passed away.
Mary J. James was born on July 3, 1854, in London, England. She came to the United States with her parents when 13 years of age, locating in LaSalle, Illinois. On January 20, 1877, she was married to Wesley Richart. To this union three children were born, Emma, Charles and Anna, all of whom survive and were making their home with their mother at the time of her death.
The Richart family came with the first great rush of homeseekers in 1882 and filed a homestead in Section 1, in Rose Hill Township, about 7 miles southwest of Wessington. There they resided for some 20 years or more until they purchased the James Hall farm across the Hills some six or seven miles further south. It was here that the husband died in 1904.
Mrs. Richart was a good wife and mother, ever solicitious for the welfare of her children. Her standart of morality was high and she always strove to live up to that standard. She was respected by all who knew her. The home will be a lonely place without her presence.
Funeral services were held at Rose Hill Church on Thursday afternoon, the serice having been delayed to await the arrival of the sister of the deceased, Mrs. Caroline E. Woodruff, of Salt Lake City. Interment was made in the family lot in the Rose Hill Cemetery."
