David Marvin "Buck" Hanes

Buck was the fourth child and third son of David Q. Hanes and Nancy C. Moore. He married Elizabeth Anna Schoen (a daughter of George Schoen and Helene F. Peter) on Christmas Eve in 1924 in Papineau (Iroquois County), Illinois. They had five children; four sons and one daughter. There is a memorial stone in the Oakridge (now Papineau) Cemetery honoring him and his wife, Elizabeth. Buck's ashes are scattered on his son's property in Ignacio, Colorado. There is also a memorial marker honoring Elizabeth and Buck on their son, Jerry's property. Their son, Harold Lawrence (1913-2008) also has a marker on the Hanes' property.

SCHOOL RECORDS: Hilside School; Springbrook, Wisconsin. Excerpt, "... Hillside School was located north of Springbrook, Washburn Co., WI, about halfway between Gull Lake and Hay Lake. In 1916 - 1917 the teacher at this school was Susie C. THIBEDEAU, and the school officers were: Mrs. Mary LEUTHNER, clerk; Mathias DENNINGER, Director and Mrs. Edith PARKER, treasurer. The following list of students was from the 1916 - 1917 school year.

Excerpt from what she said, " Uncle Buck (her Dad) was called Handy because he helped his father who declared he (Buck) was handy to have around, now days I think they are called a goffer. ..."
