Born Summit County OH. Enlisted in Company I, 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, March 22, 1865, at Wooster, OH by Capt. Drake. Transferred to Company E, 183rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry June 12, 1865, to complete his term of service, and was mustered out July 17, 1865.
Resided in Hinckley Twp., Medina Co. OH in 1850, 1860, and 1870, and 1880, as shown in U.S. Census. Parents were Charles, born about 1805, and Mary(nee Newman), born about 1810, both in England. Henry was one of 6 children in the family. Charles was a farmer.
By 1880 Henry T. Porter had married Lydia(nee Smith), born Sept. 7, 1846 at Granger Twp., Medina Co. OH. Her father was William Smith, born England, and Lydia(nee Ingraham), born VT. Henry T. and Lydia Porter raised two children:
Minott, born 1870, and Pearl E., born Nov. 1889. Henry farmed for a living.
The 1900 U.S. Census shows Henry farming in Richfield Twp., Summit Co. OH. In the 1910 U.S. Census, Henry and Lydia resided in Berea, OH with dauther, Pearl E., 21 years old and a niece, Ella M. Porter, 19 years old. In the 1920 U.S. Census Henry and Lyria lived in Middleburg Twp., Cuyahoga County OH with daughter, Pearl, then 31 years old, single and a college teacher.
Lydia Porter died April 27, 1924 and is buried at Woodvale Cemetery. Henry died Nov. 12, 1930, and was buried on Nov. 15, 1930 at Woodvale Cemetery. He had resided at 2382 Bridge St., Berea, OH.
Daughter Pearl, single, is shown in the 1930 U.S. Census residing in Berea, OH and head of household with a housekeeper, Sarah, Richards, 63 years old, born WI.
In 1930, her brother and son of Henry T. and Lydia Porter, Minott E. Porter, was residing in Washington, D.C.
