Lewis was born on 23 Sept 1849 in Warren Co Ohio to Danile L. Fox and Rosannah Christman. He had three brothers and one sister.
On September 12, 1833 he married Mary Haggerty in Springboro Ohio. They had two sons, Daniel and Albert and two daughters, Elizabeth and Pearl.

Louis M. Fox killed by a Panhandle Freight Train at Fourteenth Street
His skull crushed
Expired after being removed to his home on Bogue's Hill
A Panhandle freight train ran over and killed Louis M. Fox, a stonemason, residing on the corner of Hill and Fourteenth Street, between 10 and 11 o'clock yesterday morning.
Fox had been employed by Bart McClain, the drayman for the past few days, and was returning home when the accident befell him. As he attempted to Cross the tracks at McClure street, a freight train back down upon him. Fox was struck on the head and which rendered him unconscious, and he fell under the trucks. Otto Rosenthal, who runs the restaurant at Fourteenth and McClure street saw him fall and ran to his assistance. He drew the injured man from under the cars, and the body not yet lifeless was taken into the restaurant. The Panhandle physician was called and he ordered the man removed to his home where he expired about noon.
Fox was 45 years of age and leaves a wife and four children.
